Oh What a Magnificent Marvel this Marble is!

EARTHLY THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Psalm 24:1 KJV

The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

The point is; in the forty years of living I’ve done so far, I’ve visited 22 nations of this planet, I have experienced several cultures and races, sampled the delights of all kinds of foods, seen all kinds of terrains and countryside and lived in different weathers, I’ve met and got to know ordinary people rich and poor, I’ve seen some of the different religious faiths and philosophies – And yet I still observe that the fundamental nature of humanity is the same wherever I go and that we can have every reason to have hope for mankind’s destiny. We can get along with one another, we can work together, we can share in the abundance of the fruits of the earth, we can build civilizations of harmony and peace, we can create families of love and care, we can learn from others and educate others, and we can explore and delve deeper into the mysteries of life and creation.

We can love and respect this Magnificent Marvel of a Marble and we can share that love and respect for the planet with others.

Warning: Worrying Kills

“We are, perhaps, uniquely among the earth's creatures, the worrying animal. We worry away our lives, fearing the future, discontent with the present, unable to take in the idea of dying, unable to sit still.” 1

Warning: Earth Kills

“Some of us still get all weepy when we think about the Gaia Hypothesis, the idea that Earth is a big furry goddess-creature who resembles everybody’s mom in that she knows what’s best for us. But if we look at the historical record – Kratatoa, Mount Vesuvius, Hurricane Charley, poison ivy, and so forth down the ages – you have to ask yourself: whose side is she on, anyway?” 2

Warning: Stupidity & Folly Kills

And when the Great British Empire was in her height of power and ruling much of the earth an Irish-American orator William Bourke Cockran, who profoundly influenced the great Winston Churchill, said on July 15 1903 at the Liberal Club in London:

Your free trade system makes the whole industrial life of the world one vast scheme of cooperation for your benefit. At this moment, in every quarter of the globe, forces are at work to supply your necessities and improve your condition. As I speak, men are tending flocks on Australian fields and shearing wool which will clothe you during the coming winter. On western lands, men are reaping grain to supply your daily bread. In mines deep underground, men are swinging pickaxes and shovels to wrest from the bosom of the Earth the ores essential to the efficiency of your industry. Under tropical skies, hands are gathering, from bending boughs, luscious fruits which in a few days will be offered for your consumption in the streets of London. Over shining rails, locomotives are drawing trains, on heaving surges, sailors are piloting barks, through arid deserts Arabs are guiding caravans, all charged with the fruits of industry to be placed here freely at your feet. You alone, among all the peoples of the Earth, encourage this gracious tribute and enjoy its full benefit, for here alone it is received freely, without imposition, restriction or tax, while everywhere else, barriers are raised against it by stupidity and folly.3

He is also well known for the following famous quotations:

“Our earth is but a small star in a great universe. Yet of it we can make, if we choose, a planet unvexed by war, untroubled by hunger or fear, undivided by senseless distinctions of race, color or theory.”

“There is enough for all. The earth is a generous mother; she will provide in plentiful abundance food for all her children if they will but cultivate her soil in justice and in peace.”

Warning: Lethargy kills

“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.” 4

“Ask yourself whether the dream of heaven and greatness should be waiting for us in our graves - or whether it should be ours here and now and on this earth.” 5

Warning: Ignorance Kills:

“How far must suffering and misery go before we see that even in the day of vast cities and powerful machines, the good Earth is our mother and that if we destroy her, we destroy ourselves” 6

i am sure there is a point to be made inside all of this knowledge, but i didn't see it. which i did wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. i have been overcome with tears of the disease i possess which happens to be called Loser'itis.

okai, so i am having a pity dai for myself. i know exactly what i believe i deserve but because i have my very own Coupled life in which i live, i am not allowed certain things to sai to the world at hand. which leaves me quite stifled at times. i need so much of what i dont get and largely possible i will never get. i know there is the option of moving on... i am Not sure what stops me!

Ok, I've added my point now.

I've sent a message to you replying on the other things ;-)

A very nice read and these're quite valid concerns though but I'm a bit SCARED seeing a lots of "Warnings" and not even a "Hope" yet :-)!! Do we still have one hope ? And if so, how to achieve that?

According to Bible, the Earth indeed belongs to God and so does everything but the ruler of this Earth is also the devil and to make it even worse God has given us a "Free Will" so that whatever we'll choose, we'll make our choices NOT out of obligations but out of truth and love - the truth that lies in the core of our human desire. This truth may or may not always be good but it has to be truth and it's always up to us- the humans to persue it or not.And if we do believe there is a God then we also have to accept that this is how he has designed things for us. I heard a friend once told me - "life happens but we make choices" and I couldn't agree more. So I think yes, there is still a hope and as you've said - we humans are fundamentally quite simillar beyond our these so called differences so I think it's time we rely upon these similaritise to realize this "Hope" and make wise choices to save this Planet.

I think your warnings are good points, well made. I also put a blog up in my series on the Cosmos, and noted, like you that the Earth is far from an indestructible, eternal entity, rather it is a fragile garden, a tiny oasis between the unbearable heat of the sun and the unthinkable and absolute cold (-273 C) of the interstellar medium. As such, we should cherish it while we are able.

ok i am prepared 2 B blasted, but probbly won't since u have posted a new blog post. i still haven't read anything past u eating all kinds of foods inside u'r 22nations. which by the wai, is an awesome feat, even if it wasnt meant as a feat...

my first post is 2 the LadyBirdBug or whatever i forgot...

okay, yada yada!
when i read Phil's stuff... i tend to see wai down deep past the pHilosophical'ness than the average John 3:16.

and i think that is where Phil tries to take us! we as, once, godFearin' adults know the whys and the whats of the Bible, but it is the Toes in which we might stepOn wai further past the Logical EveryDai thinking in which I think Phil tries to Touch upon!

Your blogs are very good! You are quite bright and a bit intimidating for such a furry little bird. . . :)

Wednesday 28 March 2007 - 09:28PM (CDT)

Right Saige, as I've said earlier, Phil's blog is a very good read and indeed gives lots of food to reflect such as:
1.where are we now ?
2.and where are we heading to ?
3.and "why" ?
And finally is it really worth for us to persue it especially when we take stock of the price we've to pay ??

I got Phil's point though - he stareted off with a philosophical note leading us through practicality to a very rational question which needs an immediate attention today. and I know what he is trying imply is that it's time we shouldn't ignore it any further if we really intend to save our planet.

In my earlier post I said something about "choices" and yes, as humans we do have a choice though which is entirely ours and eventually it's up to us to decide whether to follow it or not - whether we should step on those toes or not...!!

By the way I'm just "LadyBird" & there is no "Bug" there with me ;-)

I think it's time I better put my REAL picture here otherwise some people are thinking I'm little & worse yet "Furry"..LOL..

Wednesday 28 March 2007 - 11:16PM (CDT)

I thank you all for your comments and for sharing them here! I really appreciate them a great deal. I think you got the point of my message and that's good!

Although it might have been subtle, the underlying message here was one of expressing my belief that there is hope. I have faith in humanity and her ability to come together and learn to love this earth and provide it with the care that she deserves. It is hope that motivates us to achieve greater things for mankind.

I actually think that the earth is much more rugged than we give it credit for. My concern is not so much with the earth but more the harm we will do to our own human race because of our careless ways. It's highly unlikely but the worse we could do is wipe ourselves out completely. If that happened, the earth would possibly have no choice but to wait several hundred million years for another, hopefully more considerate species to evolve and look after the beautiful planet. That is why I chose to express my message with a set of warnings.
